A fantasy vacation in a medieval chateau.

We have rented properties 7 times in the last 20 years in the southwest of France. Chateau Trichot was far and away the best. Over the course of 8 weeks our whole family- 4 adult children, their spouses, 8 grandchildren with their significant others, 2 great grandchildren- and numerous close friends came. The vote was unanimous- the best ever. Everything was as promised but more so. Trichot is an owner lived in property furnished in impeccable taste, from the kitchen to the dining room to the Irving room to all the bedrooms to the outside amenities. Muryelle, the housekeeper, comes 3 times a week and is a godsend. Antoine takes care of the property beautifully. The wi-fi works very well. The Bechstein piano is a joy to play and listen to. The tennis court is well maintained. The sunflowers growing in the adjacent field at the end of July were magnificent. The vineyard on the property just adds to the fantasy of staying at Trichot. As an added bonus is the wonderful little village of Thezac, complete with an old church at which we heard a flute quintet, and watched the Bastille Day fireworks from the comfort of the outside dining table, and the neighboring basted of Tournon-d’Agenais, a gem with a weekly Marche gourmand beginning in July. Last but perhaps most important Joanna and Bill Stuart-Bruges are the perfect hosts. They made our stay even more memorable with suggestions about local concerts, events, restaurants, and marches (both markets and hikes).

Wow: what an amazing experience!
We booked this chateau [Lamostonie] for a very special family occasion and were excited but apprehensive as we needed it to be perfect. We needed have worried as it far exceeded our expectations!
Joanna supplied us with lots of information beforehand and also answered our many queries and this was really useful as we were able to quickly locate local shops, attractions etc.
The chateau itself has large, comfortable bedrooms, many of which are ensuite, something we prioritised when booking. The lift was particularly appreciated by some older guests! There is a lot of space so that, even with 20+, no one ever felt crowded or overwhelmed. Some of the younger members of the party used the ping-pong table and tennis courts but most of us stayed in and around the pool area which is beautifully maintained and spacious.
The catering facilities are of particular note as there is a large range of cooking pans and utensils, plus many different serving dishes, crockery and cutlery. The two dishwashers are essential and a real boon.
The outside table is a superb location as we sat 23 people around comfortably and were all able to stay in the shade, a necessity as the temperature even in the evening, was over 30C.
The whole chateau and grounds are extremely clean and well-maintained: the pool in particular is spotless although the 'octopus' that swims around hoovering up is a little daunting at times! Seriously: it keeps the water immaculate at all times.
We loved the chateau and everyone who came keep telling us we couldn't have chosen anywhere better, which is some feat when the party ranges in age from 5 to 80!
If you are looking for a very, very special and unique venue with top quality attention to comfort and detail, Chateau Lamostonie is the place for you and I have no hesitation in recommending it unreservedly.

Dear Joanna

We have just got home this afternoon from Lamostonie, and I can easily say that it was the most perfect week's family holiday.

You have created the most wonderful setting with the chateau, grounds and swimming pool looking immaculate yet comfortable, and as one of the online reviews said, absolutely nothing is missing from the chateau that you could possibly want. We used the swimming pool and court constantly, and in fact as the weather was so kind, we in the end only had a couple of short trips to Rocamadour and Cahors, as we were so enjoying all being together in such blissful and spoiling surroundings. All the garden planting was gorgeous at the front and back of the chateau, and we were lucky to have the roses repeat-flowering.

We did so appreciate that everything in the chateau is of high standard, clean and fresh, and well cared for. If we lacked for anything, it was that we hadn't brought a concert pianist with us!

With best wishes
Lucy

Dear Joanna,

We absolutely loved Chateau du Trichot. The Castle was perfect for our family holiday, sitting rooms comfortable, dining table able to accommodate us all as did the outside table where we ate almost all of our meals. Thank you for recommending Karla she was great. A smile on her face in the mornings when we came down for breakfast. She managed to cook delicious meals for two vegetarians, six children and eleven adults staying cheerful all the time!

We also enjoyed the well kept grounds, the pool, the tennis court, the beautiful countryside around and the views. We had many a gentle stroll up to the pretty village after dinner.

Hope your latest project is going well.

Love from us both,

Sheena

Joanna,

Thank-you for processing this refund so promptly.

We all had a wonderful time throughout the week, at your two chateaux [Trichot & Cardou]. All of those staying in the chateaux were very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed their stay and their accommodation. This is a very pretty corner of France indeed and just slightly further to the South West than I think I have been before. Having enjoyed Cardou and Trichot so much, I must find a reason to stay at Lamonostonie! Perhaps one day.

All the very best,

Martin

Joanna, William

Just a quick note to say what a wonderful stay my friends and I enjoyed at Lamostonie. The chateau is fabulous, exactly meeting our needs and exceeding our expectations. Frederique and Jean-Claude were extremely helpful and unobtrusive. The whole experience was first-class.
My only regret is that we forgot to write/draw in the visitors book. Nevertheless we have verbally agreed amongst the group to return in two years to put that right!
Thank you again.
Ned

Dear Joanna and Bill

Thank you so much for loaning us Chateau Cardou. We truly had a wonderful time and the house was perfectly appointed for all our needs. The house is really well equipped and Your attention to detail with the children's cots / plastic cups plates and spoons / and toy cupboard was a lovely addition. The house more than exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend it to families / large parties who like to be both together but with space to be apart. The swimming pool and tennis court were enjoyed by all. The piano is also beautiful.

Best wishes

Suzannah

Dear Joanna

We had a great time at Lamostonie, the children making the most of all the facilities available - round the table ping pong being a favourite after dinner! - all 18 of us! It was lovely that all the children get on so well, and were busy all day and half the night enjoying themselves.

We decided that our best move was to have dinner cooked and cleared up, a real treat for all the mums, and Mme Francoul did a great job for us.

We had a few outings as well. Some of these chateaux built up the sides of steep rocks are amazing. It was very, very hot when we first arrived but after a storm it was reasonable.

Thank you for letting us borrow Lamostonie for a very successful holiday.
Thank you so much for the wine you left out. Is the vineyard at Trichot yours?
With my very best wishes for a successful summer. Frederiques says you are fully booked all summer - that sounds good!

Caroline

Chateau Cardou is a magnificent property with beautiful bedrooms and living rooms throughout. It is clearly an authentic chateau but it's also clear that it was completely renovated recently and is in excellent condition with a modern kitchen well decorated throughout. It really is the most magnificent property we have stayed in.

We had three families staying here with nine children. The upstairs is a large open space with half a dozen bedrooms all round. This became the kids space. Downstairs is the kitchen, living room, dining room, we could seat all 15 of us here in one go and larger bedrooms. There are utilities and a table tennis table in the basement. Outside there is a decent sized heated outdoor pool, gardens and tennis court and with all these facilities we could have kept the family happy at the Chateau all week.

Nearby we could explore the woods and nearby vinyards. The fields around were a mixture including vines and sunflowers and the property is set a little way off the "main" road so we didn't have to worry about anyone running into the road and it was quite private. The local area is not the most interesting I have found in France but we went caneoing on the river, did some rock climbing, explored the local castle and longer trips to Rocamadour and the caves for the more spectacular. We have been concerned about stories of fake listings on Owners Direct and for completeness, the property is owned by Joanna & Bill a rather posh, mature English couple who clearly spend a lot of time in France. If they are in England they will supply a phone number with a Newbury, Berkshire area code and I recommend that you speak to Joanna.
